I like cemeteries, to the extent that if I see one and have the time, I visit. One of the things I found most charming in Hong Kong cemeteries is the display of the resident on the headstone. It really gives you a warm sense of the life that was led, rather than staring at a name in cold stone.
Of all the photos that I’ve taken of these portraits, these two made the greatest impression. Her for her appeal as a woman. Him for his cigarette which makes me laugh — it makes me think generously of his family who must have chosen that particular photo. They must have a sense of style and humor, and isn’t that what gets us through the days?
Young women and young men … what we all are if we manage to live for a couple of decades. I was happy to have found them, even if I was too late.
If you plan to be buried, I recommend a photo so that others can meet you. And why not choose it yourself? There’s still time if you hurry.
